11-YEAR-OLD’S BUNNINGS SAUSAGE SIZZLE RAISES $7000 FOR ROYAL FLYING DOCTOR SERVICE
TED Perton’s fundraising efforts are cooking with gas.
The 11-year-old from Port Melbourne has cooked up over 65 kilograms of snags — and pumped out a sausage a minute outside Bunnings — in a bid to raise money for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
And the Grade 6 student at Melbourne Grammar’s Grimwade House has raised a whopping $7000 to help provide primary health care to people in remote areas.
Ted, who one days hopes to be a pilot, said he wanted to raise $2000 to “help out” the Royal Flying Doctors.
“I set a target of $2000 but ended up raising $7000,” he said.
Ted’s stellar entrepreneurial skills saw him launch a crowd funding campaign alongside the sausage sizzle, offering people the chance to buy a “virtual sausage” if they couldn’t make it to Bunnings.
The Everyday Hero online campaign raised more than $4800.
Ted said he held the sausage sizzle on October 30 to cash in on the foot traffic from The Block’s open day on nearby Ingles St.
“It was a good day to do it because there were so many people around,” he said.
The money will help Royal Flying Doctor Service build a motorised portable dental kit to provide services to elderly people who otherwise wouldn’t be able to access the service.
Ted has been asked to speak about his fundraising efforts at the Royal Flying Doctor Service’s AGM on November 23.
Ted has now turned his attention to raising money for the Humanitus Foundation, which works to remove barriers to education for children in South East Asia.
